The thresholds that changed the conversation

In the same quarter, three thresholds have been crossed. Salesforce Agentforce is auto-resolving eighty four per cent of qualifying service cases for the leading reference customers, and the qualifying case definition is widening. Alipay has disclosed one hundred and twenty million agent-mediated transactions in a single month, with the agent acting as the interface between the consumer and the merchant. Microsoft has moved agent-to-agent communication to general availability inside the Microsoft 365 estate, which means that agents from different vendors can now coordinate on a single business workflow under a single audit trail.

Any one of these would have been a board topic on its own. Together, they make H2 2026 the inflection point at which the Agentic Enterprise moves from a vendor slide to a board agenda item.

What the Agentic Enterprise is, and what it is not

The Agentic Enterprise is an enterprise where autonomous agents execute multi-step business workflows under human-in-the-loop oversight, with audit trail, named accountable owners and measurable business outcomes. It is not an enterprise where every workflow is autonomous. It is not an enterprise where the human is out of the loop. It is not an enterprise where the audit trail is reconstructed after the fact. These distinctions matter, because the failure modes of the Agentic Enterprise look exactly like the failure modes of an over-promised AI rollout if the distinctions are not respected.

The Agentic Enterprise is also not a single technology choice. It is an operating model choice, ratified by the board, owned by the CEO and instrumented by the COO and CIO together. The vendor selection is a downstream consequence of the operating model choice, not the other way around.

The Agentic Enterprise level on the AltaFuturis AI Readiness Assessment

The AltaFuturis Enterprise AI Readiness Assessment Audit defines five levels, Bystander, Aspirant, Builder, Strategist and Agentic Enterprise. The Agentic Enterprise level is the destination level for organisations that have ratified the operating model and instrumented the governance guardrails. The assessment captures the Strategy and Governance, Talent and Capability, Data and Customer, Technology and Architecture and Risk and Compliance pillars, and the Agentic Enterprise level requires a defensible score across all five, not just one.

Across the AltaFuturis respondent base in the UAE, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia, the median organisation today sits at Aspirant with selective Builder capability. The Agentic Enterprise level is achievable within twelve to eighteen months for organisations that start the deliberate work now. It is not achievable in twelve to eighteen months for organisations that wait for the vendor conversation to mature.

The CEO 100-day plan

Day one to thirty, take the Enterprise AI Readiness Assessment Audit and convene a board working session on the Agentic Enterprise level. Name an accountable owner at the executive committee. Identify the three workflows where the agentic operating model would have the highest business outcome and the lowest regulatory exposure.

Day thirty one to sixty, ratify the governance guardrails, the human-in-the-loop policy, the kill switch protocol and the audit trail standard. Sign off the vendor evaluation criteria, including the agent-to-agent interoperability requirement and the data residency declaration.

Day sixty one to ninety, run the first agentic workflow pilot with explicit checkpoints and a public audit trail. Re-baseline the maturity score across the five pillars. Publish the first quarterly board review of agent outcomes against the original business case.

Day ninety one to one hundred, ratify the next two agentic workflows for Q4 2026 and the supporting capability investment, including the cohorts of Applied AI MasterClass participants who will lead the workflows.

The governance guardrails that are non-negotiable

Five guardrails are non-negotiable. A named accountable owner at the executive committee for every agent in production. A human-in-the-loop checkpoint for every decision that affects a customer, an employee or a regulator. A real-time audit trail that the regulator can request without notice. A kill switch with a rehearsed activation, not a documented one. A model card and data residency declaration for every agent, refreshed quarterly.

Boards that ratify these five guardrails before the first agentic workflow goes live will run the workflow safely. Boards that ratify them after will find themselves explaining to the regulator why they did not.

  • Named accountable owner at the executive committee for every agent in production.
  • Human-in-the-loop checkpoint for every customer, employee or regulator-facing decision.
  • Real-time audit trail accessible to the regulator without notice.
  • Kill switch with a rehearsed activation, not a documented one.
  • Model card and data residency declaration refreshed quarterly.

The country lens for UAE, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia

In the UAE, the regulator and the DIFC Commissioner will expect the Agentic Enterprise conversation to be anchored in PDPL, DIFC Data Protection Law and the relevant sectoral regulator guidance. In Nigeria, the NDPC will expect a Data Protection Impact Assessment for any agentic workflow that processes personal data. In Kenya, the ODPC will expect the same. In Tanzania and Ethiopia, the direction of travel is the same and CXOs should design the operating model to meet the higher baseline rather than the current local minimum.

Across all five jurisdictions, the unifying principle is the same. The Agentic Enterprise is a board topic, and the board is the body that ratifies the operating model. The vendor is the consequence, not the cause.

How the AltaFuturis MasterClasses prepare the leadership team

The Generative AI for CXOs and Business Leaders MasterClass equips the CEO and the executive committee to ratify the Agentic Enterprise operating model at the board. The Adaptive Leadership in an AI-Accelerated Business Environment MasterClass prepares the executive committee to lead the organisation through the transition. The Applied AI and Predictive Analytics MasterClass equips the analytics and operations leadership to instrument the agent outcomes against the business case. The AI Strategy and Digital Innovation for HR Professionals MasterClass prepares the People function to lead the workforce transition that the agentic operating model requires.

Cohorts run virtual on July 16 to 18 and August 13 to 15 2026, and onsite on July 23 to 25 and August 19 to 21 2026. Early Bird pricing of USD 650 is open until 30 June 2026.

Five actions in the next week

First, take the Enterprise AI Readiness Assessment Audit and capture the score across the five pillars. Second, identify the three workflows where the agentic operating model would have the highest business outcome and the lowest regulatory exposure. Third, ratify the five non-negotiable governance guardrails at the executive committee. Fourth, name an accountable owner for the Agentic Enterprise conversation at the board. Fifth, reserve seats in the July or August 2026 Generative AI for CXOs MasterClass cohort before Early Bird closes on 30 June 2026.
